Illustration
The ability to draw – either from life or from imagination
– is a skill that has come in handy on more than one occasion. For
instance, the mariachi band illustration below was used for a Cinqo de
Mayo party invitation. It was drawn without any visual reference; I just
imagined what I wanted this to look like and sketched it. That doesn't
always work, but with patience (and a good eraser) it happens.
The possum illustrations (and the bear jumping into the
leaves) were drawn to accompany a children's article published in Lowcountry
Parent magazine. The character holding the umbrella was drawn in Photoshop
for a surprise baby shower invitation. The sketch of my grandmother was
done from a photo. The zebra illustration is one I had done years ago
and given to a friend, who recently reminded me that he had it. Thanks
Jim!
